Julia Eshaghpour and Kevin Hollidge founded Sunfish NYC without formal training in furniture making or interior design. Rather it was their ongoing sculptural practice under the moniker Tenet, that led them to research the history and politics of interiors, architecture, furniture design, and materials. They see Sunfish as a further extension of that practice. If Tenet was a reaction to the history and politics of building, Sunfish is our answer. It is a reflection of how we would like to live.

Primarily a furniture design studio, Sunfish combines design principles from Latin American and European Modernism that privileges a simple economy of materials, clear construction methods, as well as humanist thinking and craftsmanship to produce a unique aesthetic that is fit for the contemporary age. In accordance with this ethos we produce collections of furniture, custom furniture, spatial design projects/consultations, experiences, and small edition objects.

Julia and Kevin emphasize the openess of this project. The studio has completed projects in furniture design, interiors, set design, sculpture, clothing, and video production. It is their belief that the ultimate artistic project is life itself, and Sunfish is a materialization of that belief.
